Ghana international Ernest Nuamah has expressed his delight after ending his long wait for a French Ligue 1 goal with an impressive display for Lyon.

The pacey Black Stars winger produced a standout performance at the Groupama Stadium, scoring once and providing an assist as Lyon secured a convincing victory over AJ Auxerre in a highly competitive encounter.

Nuamah turned provider in the 28th minute, setting up Felix Bacher to open the scoring as Lyon continued to dominate proceedings. Earlier, Loïs Openda thought he had given the hosts the lead, but his effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

Eight minutes into the second half, Nuamah got his name on the scoresheet, calmly finishing to restore Lyon’s two-goal advantage after Cameron Archer had pulled one back for Auxerre shortly before half-time.

His influential performance earned him the Man of the Match award, highlighting his growing importance to Paulo Fonseca’s side.

Speaking after the match, Nuamah reflected on the difficult journey he has endured since suffering his injury setback and expressed his happiness at finally finding the back of the net again.

“I’m happy to have scored my first Ligue 1 goal in a long time. It’s been a long journey since my injury to get back to this point… but now I’m back,” he said.

The 22-year-old will now look to build on this performance and regain his best form as he seeks to establish himself as a key player for Lyon.

His return to the scoresheet will also come as welcome news for Ghana, with the Black Stars set for a number of important assignments.
