John Antwi marked his return to Hearts of Oak in spectacular fashion, scoring twice as the Phobians opened their 2026/27 campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.
The experienced striker needed just four minutes to make his presence felt. After a scramble inside the Berekum Chelsea penalty area, Antwi reacted quickest to the loose ball and calmly finished from close range to put Hearts ahead.
The Phobians continued to control the game, although Berekum Chelsea came close to finding an equaliser after a costly mistake from Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Antwi had other ideas.
In the 37th minute, the veteran forward rose highest inside the box to meet a well-delivered cross, sending a powerful header into the net to double Hearts’ advantage and complete his brace.
Berekum Chelsea struggled to respond after the break as Hearts of Oak remained firmly in control and continued to threaten going forward.
The hosts eventually added a third in the 86th minute through debutant Kader Mahmoud, who headed home a perfectly delivered cross from Ransford Mensah.
Ali Mohammed then completed the rout late on, sealing an emphatic 4-0 win and giving new head coach Nebojsa Kapor the perfect start to his Hearts of Oak reign.
For Antwi, it was a dream return — two goals, a dominant performance and three points to kick-start the new season.
