Sheffield United have completed the signing of Ghana captain Jordan Ayew on a free transfer, with the Championship club confirming the move on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old forward joins the Blades on a one-year contract after leaving Leicester City in July when his deal with the Foxes expired.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder expressed his delight at securing Ayew’s signature, highlighting the forward’s wealth of experience and versatility.

“We’re talking about someone with tremendous experience at the highest level of the game. Only a few months ago, he was captaining Ghana at the World Cup, so he brings real pedigree to the team,” Wilder said.

Ayew enjoyed a spell in the Championship with Leicester City last season and his ability to operate across several attacking positions is expected to provide Sheffield United with additional options going forward.

The Blades will be hoping the Ghanaian’s experience can help revive their fortunes after a difficult start to the campaign, with the club picking up just one victory from their opening five league matches.

Ayew brings more than a decade of experience in English football to Bramall Lane. Before joining Leicester, he featured in the Premier League for Aston Villa, Swansea City and Crystal Palace.

His move to Sheffield United marks another chapter in a long and successful career in English football, as he looks to make an immediate impact with the Blades.
